The Unseen: Choropleth

Flag installation at Somerset House by London based design studio Unseen.

This flag is one of a series commissioned by Somerset House. This Union Jack draws attention to fuel emissions in the surrounding area as the flag is made of a chromic colour change compound which reactions to radiation in the air. The more pollutant in the air the less colour there is in the flag. The surface has a map on London on the surface.

I thought this was a really clever idea but you can’t appreciate the detail from one sight at ground level. The day I was there it had a rather washed out look. How about a close up live camera to show detail and a time lapse to show the changes over time?
