Jesse Darling: The Ballad of Saint Jerome
Strange but fun exhibition at Tate Britain of new work by contemporary artist Jesse Darling At lot of the work explored the story of St Jerome and the lion, a popular theme in Renaissance art, taking it as a symbol of taming nature and knowledge. I did wonder what the Renaissance masters would have thought of these works as they were made from everyday objects. The door was flanked by two lions made of metal and packing foam. I loved the forest of crutches, level arch files and toilet brushes and the display cabinet with crutches replacing two of the legs. My favourite work wasn’t on the St Jerome theme was called “Ascension Device” and was a ladder held up by two hands shown high up on the wall. Closed on 24 February 2019
