Seung-taek Lee
Interesting exhibition at White Cube, Masons’ Yard of work by South Korean artist
Seung-Taek Lee.
There was an interesting mix of work. Upstairs was beige work using string. I loved the large pictures with closely tied and wound string stuck to canvas creating lovely patterns. There were also smaller works where the string appeared as if breaking of the canvas and a large ceramic vase with string hanging down from it.
Downstairs was a recreation of a works from the 1960s. They were a stainless steel frame with brightly coloured vinyl wrapped round it. The originals had been shown in galleries, sculpture gardens and in landscapes. These were shown drawings of them in some of their original settings.
