Small exhibition at London Glassblowing of new work by James Devereux and Louis Thompson.   Devereux and Thompson were invited to work at Soneva Art and Glass in the Maldives earlier this year and this show featured the work they did there.   I loved the pieces like giant paperweights with bubbles and swirls in brightly coloured glass. Also the pieces they called Pods which were three worked pieces of glass on a wooden base. In contrast there were long opaque works in neon colours with oval patterns up the side. Summer Open House

Image
Delightful exhibition at London Glassblowing of works by a variety of glass craftspeople that have come together for this annual summer show. I liked Baldwin & Guggisberg’s lovely large vases with matt raised glass with two colours behind it. Also Peter Layton’s work for the National Gallery based on Van Gogh’s sunflowers. I also liked some works inspired by the garden at Highgrove commissioned for Fortum and Mason’s which were rather Monet like. Plus Bruce Mark’s matt blue tall bases with bright red glass inside. Black to White and Back Again

Image
Stylish exhibition at London Glassblowing featuring glass works in black and white organised with the Contemporary Glass Society. As glass is clear works in black and white were actually coloured and it was an interesting take to see what a number of craftspeople could do with this limited palate. Traditionally black and white is seen as monotone but the variety of finishes seen here gives a complex view of the material. I loved Philippa Beveridge’s feathers and Tracey Nicholls square lace effect plaques. Also Stephen Foster’s Diamond Rock, a diamond facetted clear piece which glinted in a wonderful way. If memory serves it was set off by a white under surface. My favourite though was Jean-Simon Trottier’s piglet trotter drinking glasses in opaque white glass. What’s not to love?
