Carrington’s Letters

Charming evening at Charleston Farmhouse as part of the Charleston Festival pairing a talk on the letters of Dora Carrington and a reading of some of the letters.

Anne Chisholm introduced her new book collecting and annotating Carrington’s letters which seeks to present her as more than a minor character in the story of Lytton Stratchey. She told Carrington’s story as the actress, Eve Best, read some of the letters with touches of lightness and emotion where needed.

Of course my favourite letter was from Carrington to Vanessa Bell to describe visiting Charleston before Vanessa moved in. It was magical to sit in the houses grounds listening to this letter and knowing all that was to come.
