Something going on above my head

Sound installation at Tate Britain by Oswaldo Macia just above the new spiral staircase.

It brings together the sounds of 2000 bird songs collected from ornithological archives and sound libraries and creates a symphony with them scored by pitch. The speakers are positions so the sound is overhead like birds.

The title not only refers to the experience but the leaflet, also says it hints at the many daily events that go unnoticed by most people. The illustration on the leaflet places the different bird names in the pattern of an orchestra.

It is rather ethereal and relaxing. It also makes you look more closely at the lovely new space while you stand and listen. Obviously bird sound installations are a new thing; watch this space for another one in Brighton! I’ve checked and it is a different artist!
