Inflated star and wooden star

Striking sculpture in the courtyard of the Royal Academy by Frank Stella.

Made from aluminium and teakwood the structure was conceived digitally modelled and refined by Stella to the verge of minimalism before it went into production. I loved the way the buildings around the courtyard were reflected and distorted in the metal star and the way the eye is draw to it so you almost don’t see the wooden frame it sits in. This is such a good space for sculpture.
