Wolfgang Stille : Matchstickmen

Striking exhibition (sorry ban pun!) at Miart Gallery of new work by Wolfgang Stille.

These were a series of bronze sculptures in the shape of oversize matches with realistic human heads on the top. Some were just propped against the wall but others lay in giant matchboxes. In an interview Stille said that they reflect the impermanence of human life.

Whatever they mean one view of them through the window drew me into the gallery for a closer look. Surely a sign of striking art.

Closes 31 July according to the press release but I went on 22 September 2021.
