Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize

Annual exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery for the shortlisted photographs for the Taylor Wessing prize.

I thought the standard was very high this year and pick out a number of pictures to mention. Some are great formal studies such as the picture of Peter Capaldi by Paul Stuart, a lovely off centre internal looking picture. Other just catch a moment like Adrian Peacocks picture of Constable Robling and Fritan, a dog who really doesn’t like photographers!

I loved a picture of the shoe keeper at the Blue Mosque by Justin Sutcliffe with a background of the regular blue boxes to store the shoes. Also a picture of a young male ballet dancer by Sophie Harris-Taylor, a picture of a wonderful physic and yet very vulnerable.

By favourite picture was one of the Obama’s by Gillian Laub. It was a great picture of a married couple. He might be the “leader of the free world” but from that picture she looks in charge!

Close 21 February 2016.
