Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers 450th Anniversary

Interesting exhibition at the Guildhall Art Gallery marking 450 years since the foundation of the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers.

This was just a small show but had a nice mix of archive material and new work. I loved a painting of the court of the company from 1670 receiving the design for their new hall to replace the original lost in the Great Fire. Sadly that new hall was bombed in the Second World War.

It was a nice touch to show the old Master’s Chair from 1754 alongside a newly commissioned one with a display on how the new one was made and the detail of its woodwork joins and the minute book from 1753 recording the commissioning of the earlier one.
