Bram Bogart

Colourful exhibition at White Cube Masons’ Yard of work by Bram Bogart, mainly from the 1960s and 70s.

These were huge paintings with the thickest paint I’ve ever seen! Side on there were about 6 inches wide. They are painting as sculpture as he often seems to have ladler the paint onto the canvas then pushed an arm or an implement through it to create great gouges. I loved this colourful one shown which was about 6 x 4 foot so the dollops of paint were about a foot across.  It reminded me of plastercine.

Closes 7 March 2020
