Sir Antony Gormley
Excellent interview at the China Exchange with Sir Antony Gormley.
Anthony Gormley had brought along great pictures of his work and talked us through various projects including the recent work at White Cube. I was delighted to hear him talk about his Fields works, thousands of small clay figures, which are some of my favourite works. He spoke very intellectually about his work but when asked if people need to know “all that” to like the work, he was quick to say he was happy just to know people are moved by the work in some way.
A friend had
discovered this great series of interviews at the China Exchange. The
interviewer is the eccentric Sir David Tang who has a slightly abrasive style
but gets good insights into his victims, sorry interviewees! Anthony Gormley
was the only figure from the art world so I feel I can blog him but others I
went to included Princess Eugenie and Jimmy Carr.

He told a lovely
story about a recent work in San Gimignano where he has filled a room with
floor to ceiling elastic strips like you wrap round suit cases. It says things
about space but he told of his delight at seeing a small child just ran though
it enjoying the sensation of running through the bands.
