Marc Quinn: Frozen Waves, Broken Sublimes

Beautiful sculptures in the courtyard of Somerset House by Marc Quinn.

These were lovely broken shell shapes with a nice mix of matt and glossy finishes. They complimented the space well as the shiny surfaces reflected the architecture around them.

Reading the commentary on the web site now I realise these were actually two works but they worked well together. The larger works are supposed to echo the shape of a wave and the shape that all conch shells are eroded to. It helps to know a bit more about them but they just worked well as lovely shapes too.
