Hidden: Unseen Paintings beneath Tudor Portraits
Small exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of Tudor portraits which have been examined recently as part of the Making Art in Tudor Britain project.
In the case of two of the pictures x-raying has shown religious pictures underneath the portraits. These were hung with loans from other collections to show what the paintings underneath may have looked like.
Most amusing was a portrait of Walsingham with a flagellation underneath!
