John Bartlett: London Sublime

Interesting exhibition of narrative pictures by John Bartlett at the Guildhall Art Gallery.

Some of the pictures were Dr Who like visions of London. Others were quite disturbing images such as “History Painting” a study of the poll tax riot in Trafalgar Square.

The centre piece was a work in progress “Rise of the Invisible” which is being worked on during the exhibition. It would have been more interesting to go at a time when the artist was there as that would have livened up the space. When I saw it it was white chalk on black. I would be interested to see the finished work.

I preferred the drawing for his work including a lovely head study for “History Painting”.
