5 Hamlets

Interesting exhibition at the National Theatre looking at the five productions of Hamlet they have put on from Peter O’Toole in 1963 to Rory Kinnear in 2010.

There were nice displays of costume and set designs as well as programmes and posters. There were also recordings of some of the shows via headphones displays on red skulls.

I loved the sections from Peter Hall’s diaries on directing the play including the wonderful quote about he was having the usual problems with the practicalities like “Where do you keep the spade?”
