Virginia Overton

Interesting exhibition at White Cube, Bermondsey, of sculpture and installations by Virginia Overton.

The small 9x9x9x room had a wonderful sculpture made from a deconstructed Toyota Hilux truck with all the parts of the vehicles arranged in its flat bed. I loved the contrast of rough parts and the shiny painted bits.

In the main room there were wonderful pieces made of piles of marble with mirrors supported by them set against a bold wallpaper. I love the way the mirrors change the room and make it look different from every angle. In the back area was  pile of wood and wood burner. I assume as the show goes on that the pile gets smaller and changes shape.

It was a shame that this show was on with the Anthony Gormley on as it was good but overshadowed by the excellence of the Gormley.

Closes on 6 November 2016
